Workshop FAQ's

Can you resize my ring?

Yes. We can resize any ring.

A free resize is offered on items made in store UP TO 6 WEEKS after collection.

Free resizing of rings purchased in store (over $500 value) for the first two sizes, standard extra sizing fees apply thereafter.

Discounted resizing is offered for rings ON SALE and SECONDHAND and items under $500.

A free resize will be offered Free of Charge in the event that we resize incorrectly.
Can you provide a quote for my custom job?

Yes. Quotes take approximately 1-2 weeks.

These times are approximate only and are based on an average. We endeavour to have your quote finished in a timely manner.
Does custom work require a deposit?

Deposits on makes and special orders require a deposit [how much?] which is non-refundable.

Once a design has been agreed upon we are not obliged to remake the piece if the customer has a change of mind after completion. Minor changes during the manufacturing process will be accommodated within reason. Significant alterations to the original quoted design will require requoting or additional charges.
How long will it take to repair my jewellery?

Simple repairs such as resizes, simple chain solders, gluing etc. generally take 1-2 weeks.

Complex repairs such as retipping and threading, etc will take 3 or more weeks.

Makes/remakes will take 8-16 weeks from time of accepting quote and payment of deposit.

Scheduled dates will be allotted on payment of deposit.
I've got an important event! Can you fix my jewellery fast?

Coming up to an important event is often the time when your piece shows it’s age.

We know how important it is to get things right for that special occasion. For some jobs we are able to offer an express service for an additional fee.
Is there a warranty on jewellery purchased from Jai Hay Jewellers?
Yes. We offer limited warranties on all of our work.
- Custom Makes – 5 years
- Repairs – 12 months
- Rethreading – 3 months
- Retail Stock – 12 months
- Antique/Estate Stock- No warranty
Warranty covers manufacturing faults only.
Can i use my own gold or gems to remake into new items

When recycling customer metals we are unable to guarantee the quality of the metal after the melting process and are therefore is not covered under warranty. Eg: small blemishes and cracks.

In the instance that we quote to use customer metal in a job and there is not enough provided, we will offer to add extra at a reduced cost, if the customer is unable to supply additional metal. This is sometimes not obvious until the work has commenced.

If there is more than required we will return the unused portion OR a trade in can be agreed upon.
Can you use the stones I provide?

Yes.

We will provide an inspection of the stones to check for possible flaws/cracks prior to the commencement of the job. However, in some circumstances flaws/cracks can go undetected during our initial inspection and only become apparent once work has begun, especially old and Estate stones.

In the event that a customer stone is damaged during work undertaken and the cause was due to our negligence or the damage could have been avoided then we will replace it at no charge to the customer (we will contact you immediately in this circumstance).

Certain stones cannot be covered under warranty e.g. opal and emerald.
Does Jai Hay Jeweller buy second hand jewellery?

Yes.

Second hand purchases over $200 total value will be paid via EFT. If no cash on premises EFT will be offered OR collection next day for cash.

We are legally obliged to hold items for 7 days from date of purchase before offering them for resale or scrapping.

Under Tasmanian Law we are required to take a record of photo ID from the seller.
Do you offer layby?

Yes. Layby can be arranged and require a deposit of 30% with payments made on a regular basis.

We offer Layby terms under standard Australian Consumer Law on retail stock items only. Custom orders and repairs are not covered under our layby terms and conditions.

We can offer payment terms on custom orders and repairs however these are not considered a layby and as such are not covered under Australian Consumer Law standard layby terms and conditions.

Payment options are there to assist customers in the payment of outstanding amounts on repairs and custom orders to help relieve financial pressure if needed. When agreeing to have items repaired, remade or custom designed and produced, customers are entering into a contractual arrangement and thereby agreeing to complete the payments for said work. All deposits and payments are not refundable after commencement of work and customers are expected to complete all payments due.
Do you offer gift vouchers?

Yes. Gift Vouchers and Store Credit have an expiry of 3 years after the date of issue.

An extension can be negotiated prior to the expiry date. Please call us to find out more.
Can I collect a purchased item from your webshop from your Hobart showroom?

Yes.
All webshop jewellery is available for viewing and purchase in our showroom.

When purchasing from our webshop, please pick the 'Local Pickup' option in the delivery section.
Can I buy something ready made?

Yes.

Jai Hay Jeweller stocks great range of quality jewellery for every occasion.

Shelf stock includes Jai’s own pieces, as well as work from local Tasmanian artists and other hand selected, quality items both new and old.

Jai Hay Jeweller can provide you with an appraisal for the value of your jewellery for both personal and insurance purposes.

We can also buy your old, unwanted jewellery or precious metals and stones.
